One of our favorite outdoor features is our 10,000+ Gal Koi pond. Watching the Koi swim is so mesmerizing and feeding them is so much fun. They really are very gentle and they will feed right out of your hand. Every time we have guests over we keep a cup of food for them to toss in.
When we took over the pond the liner had a leak in it and the tile choice was not really our style. We had a local company come out and replace the liner for us. They also upgraded the pond filter and added a top water skimmer and jets to collect the debri that lands on the top water. For the coping we went with a grey flagstone and they did a fantastic job. We upgraded the waterfall to a giant supper bowl with 2 planters on each side.
Most people don’t really know what it takes to care for Koi fish. To be honest when we first took over the pond we were worried too. As long as you have the right filtration, pump and a UV light it really is pretty easy. Jeff does a backwash at least once a week and does a 10% water change. We also have a UV light system to keep the algae under control
We have over 50 Koi in our pond ranging from little guys under 12 inches to some big beauty’s at 32 inches.
