Have you ever noticed when I upload a picture of my Coffee Bar station, you don’t see the old register? Well that’s because I photoshop out the old ugly register right above the sconces. Here’s a quick DIY to turn your old registers into a more discreet and sleeker look. The product is called Aria vent Drywall Pro Air register and Jeff had to have these. Lately Jeff is just obsessed with recessed everything. Recessed TV, recessed lights and recessed vents now. Soon we will have recessed electrical outlets. He’s eyeing those as well.
This is a very simple swap out that requires a little drywall compound, a drywall knife and a couple drywall screws. Jeff says, if you can patch holes in drywall you can do this on your own. Jeff started by measuring the inner supply boot to order the right size vent. If you are wondering what size to order remove the register grill and measure inside the supply boot side to side. Ours was 6″ x 14″. I linked the vents on amazon. They carry various sizes. If you can’t find your size you can get them directly from the manufacturer from their website.
Jeff removed the old register and placed the new aria vent insert into the supply boot. He placed a drywall screw on each corner to secure the vent and then made the first pass of joint compound. On the second pass he added some texture to match the wall.
While the joint compound dried he attached the grill. Now that everything is installed and dry it was time to paint it to match and blend right in.
This aria vent blends in and eliminates the old register eye sore. If it wasn’t for time to dry this would have only taken Jeff 5 minutes to install. Hope you find this useful and upgrade your registers.
