Sharing how we transformed our 90’s kitchen nook into a functional coffee station. Although the original cabinets provided a lot of storage space they were not our style.! So, as they say “out with the old and in with the new”.
And just like that the cabinets and the soffits were gone. Once we had a blank canvas we installed Havsta upper and lower cabinets from ikea. We knew we wanted a wine fridge so this was the perfect place to install it instead of in the island.
After living with the upper cabinets for a while we just didn’t feel it was achieving the look we wanted. We found some beautiful tiles from Riadtiles.com for a backsplash and thought they would look so much better with floating shelves. I had so many people ask, Did you have any regrets from switching out the previous cabinets to floating shelves? My answer is no. I love them and would do it over again. The tiles are the main reason for the decision to switch and they are a show stopper in my opinion! We went with the 2×6 Zellige in Natural White and couldn’t be happier.
After Jeff removed the uppers he checked for studs to attach the mounting brackets to. He cut the dryway out and screwed the brackets directly to the studs to hold the raw maple wood shelves we picked out from the lumber yard. Once the brackets were up he measured and marked the shelf to drill the holes with a .5″ drill bit.
After installing the shelves we called our tile guy to come install the Zellige tile. They did an amazing job. We are so happy with the way it turned out.
